I love to incorporate all of the five senses when teaching my children at home. That includes their taste buds! When I received this book, The Daily Cookie: 365 Tempting Treats for the Sweetest Year of Your Life by Anna Ginsberg, I was so excited. Anna is an award-winning baker and has even won the 41st Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest!

The book contains a different recipe for an amazing cookie every day of the year. In addition,  each daily recipe corresponds with a small lesson about something important for that particular day in history.

I did a little searching in the book, and decided that since the holidays are coming, I would explore the recipe and story of November 30th. On this day in 1858, the mason jar was patented. These are the types of interesting facts that you and your child could be learning about as you spend quality time together in the kitchen.

The recipe they have included to commemorate the Mason Jar is Cookie Jar Cookie Mix. With the holidays already upon us, I thought this would be the perfect project to take on for the review. Hale to the Mason Jar!

I started by gathering my ingredients and carefully measuring out the flour layer.
I then used paper as a funnel, and began adding the flour and other dry ingredients. I mixed the oatmeal, sugar and brown sugar to make the next layer and again poured through the paper funnel.

At this point I had to really pack down the ingredients because they were getting close to the top…luckily, the book tells us to do this!

I added the pecans and the chocolate chips…yumm!

I was finally ready to close up the jar and start to package it as a gift! Aren’t the layers so pretty?!?

I found these great Christmas tag printables from Giverslog. I printed them out, along with the directions on the back and then laminated it.

I found some green fabric to add to the jar top, and then tied the whole thing together with some raffia. All of these items, I already had on hand and overall it was pretty simple.  Such a great gift to make for the holidays!

And now you can enjoy the great recipe to make these beautiful jars as well as a cookie for every day of the year!! I’d love to give away this book just in time for you to gift it, or make some cookies!

Here’s how to enter:
