One of my jobs throughout my career has been as a professional editor, so I think it’s really important to teach kids to critically read their own writing and know how to edit themselves.
This Reading Mama has a couple of great editing checklists, one for Kindergarten through second grade and one for third through fifth grade.
They take kids through the steps that help them improve their writing, such as rereading, using capital letters and proper punctuation and spelling.
It can help kids to know the steps that need to be used to help them correct their mistakes, and using the checklist a few times will get them into the habit of reading to correct and improve their work.

With summer coming on in the Northern Hemisphere, I feel like we all need some fun activities we can do with one kid at home or a bunch in a classroom when it’s too hot to go outside (I guess you can say the same for if it’s too cold to go out in the Southern Hemisphere, too).
