I am a big fan of scavenger hunts as a way to get kids outside and paying attention to nature.
The ones I have done in the past have mostly had to do with things you can see (as with the nature scavenger hunt over at Our Daily Craft) but it’s also really fun to engage other senses as you’re observing outside.
Growing Hands on Kids has a great idea for a sound scavenger hunt, and it comes with a free printable so you can do it with your kids easily.
It includes things like the sound of a cat and a dog, water, wind, a creaking tree and some things you might not hear depending on where you live, such as a cow, a duck and a bee.
You could always make your own list depending on the sounds that are common where you live such as honking horns, the musician on the corner or the beep of the garbage truck.
Have you ever done a sound scavenger hunt with your kids? This sounds like a lot of fun and I definitely want to try it on our next family walk.
