A lesson on community helpers seems to be part of most preschool and kindergarten curricula, both because kids of this age seem to love fire fighters and police officers and because its a good time to teach kids about people in the community who have helping jobs.
Teaching Mama has a great set of printable community helper posters and a clip card set that allows kids to match the helper to the tools they use.
The helpers on the posters are:
- police officer
- firefighter
- doctor
- librarian
- nurse
- veterinarian
- carpenter
- teacher
- farmer
- baker
- mechanic
- detective
The clip cards use:
- teacher
- doctor
- firefighter
- baker
- police officer
- gardener
- pilot
- veterinarian
- soldier
- scientist
- doctor
- farmer
Use these two sets together, or hang the posters in the dramatic play area of the classroom and let kids explore different helping jobs.
