Sometimes turning something into a game makes kids learn it — or show that they have learned it — way faster than doing regular worksheets or quizzes does.
These roll and race shape games from This Reading Mama cover the following concepts:
- congruent & similar shapes
- shapes with simple fractions (color in half, for example)
- drawing lines to divide shapes into halves, thirds, or fourths
- 3-D shapes
- comparing shapes with 2-D and 3-D shapes
To play, students roll a die to find the row to work on and race to the finish. Of course getting answers correct is more important than being fast, but racing adds an element of fun, too.
