Dice are a great way to introduce basic math concepts to kids. They get one to one correspondence as they learn that one dot stands for one number, they learn to recognize the patterns of the dots instead of having to count each one, and they can learn addition, comparing, matching and lots of other skills depending on the game or how you use the dice.
The Measured Mom has a great collection of more than 15 dice games to play with preschoolers, including roll and cover games, number and dot matching and charting, dice war (like the card game, but with dice), dice-rolling art projects and more.
Several of these would be great for busy bags, to keep the kids entertained while you do something else for a few minutes, or keep them in your math center/area for the kids to explore on their own.
How do you play with dice with kids? I’d love to hear your ideas!
