Fourth of July Flag Crafts

June 14, 2022 by Sarah White Leave a Comment

Fourth of July flag crafts are such an easy way to bring a little red, white, and blue fun into your summer lesson plans, classroom activities, homeschool table, or holiday weekend crafting. Whether you’re working with preschoolers, elementary-aged kids, or a mixed group of enthusiastic little makers, American flag crafts are always a good starting point because they can be as simple or as detailed as you need them to be.

This roundup includes easy patriotic craft ideas using handprints, popsicle sticks, paper plates, sponge painting, and even a little STEM-inspired water science. They’re perfect for keeping kids busy before the fireworks begin, adding a creative activity to a Fourth of July party, or building a simple lesson around American symbols and Independence Day traditions.

If you’re planning more summer learning fun, you might also like our Fourth of July sensory play ideas, these patriotic crafts for kids, or our big collection of 4th of July patriotic crafts for even more red, white, and blue inspiration.

Looking for some quick crafts and activities for the Fourth of July? These flag crafts are easy and lots of fun for kids in the summer.

This easy handprint American Flag shirt from Down Redbud Drive is perfect to make and wear on the Fourth. I could totally see doing the same thing with a handprint for the maple leaf on a Canadian flag for Canada Day.

Another cute handprint craft makes a cute wall hanging or trivet. This one is from The Soccer Mom Blog.

Or use the handprint to make the whole flag like on this one from In the Playroom. So cute and easy to make with little ones.

Make a flag out of Popsicle sticks for kids to paint with this tutorial from Jinxy Kids.

Crafts on Sea has a couple of fun flag crafts, including a sponge printed flag and a paper plate flag craft.

Add a little STEM fun to your crafting with this fun American flag craft from From Engineer to SAHM, which uses water science in two different ways to make the parts of the flag. And don’t miss this cool optical illusion flag craft from Mommy Evolution. We love a little learning with our summer fun!

Shark Week Learning for Kids

Shark Week generally happens in July, but any time is a good time to learn more about sharks.

First, start with some fun whale facts like these from Kids Craft Room. Here I learned about the dwarf lantern shark, which is the smallest shark and only grows to about 6-8 inches (about 15-20 cm) long. It also emits light. How cool is that?

Natural Beach Living has some great printable shark information guides, where kids can learn about different kinds of sharks, match the facts to the pictures, or print out doubles and do a shark memory game.

Living Life an Learning has some great shark activity pages including the parts of a shark, types of sharks, a crossword puzzle and more. Also check out their parts of a shark and word scramble download, and a life cycle worksheet.

Learn about how sharks float with this great activity from JDaniel4’s Mom.

Need more facts about sharks? This fact pact from The WOLFe PACK on Teacher Pay Teachers includes fact sheets, a printable flip book, informational text, vocabulary, comprehension questions and more.

Living Montessori Now has a great collection of shark themed activities with a Montessori inspired twist. You’ll find a shark roll and cover, shark phonics and lots more shark activities Deb has collected from all over the Internet.

Remember the “Sharknado” movie? A Few Shortcuts turned the combination of sharks and tornadoes into a fun science activity. You’ll need a bottle connector for this project but otherwise should have everything you need on hand. Use their template to make your sharks out of aluminum foil. So fun!

You can also do some shark themed coloring with these coloring pages from Encouraging Moms at Home. Or make a cool 3D shark with this template from korkotak. And there are tons of different shark crafts collected in this post from Kids Activities Blog.
