Jake And The Never Land Pirates Christmas Wreath

December 11, by Shellie Wilson. Leave a Comment

With a little inspiration from the Disney Junior characters, we’re celebrating Christmas with some of our favourite bloggers, creating magical Christmas activities for you and your little one to make and share with your family. Disney Junior The Channel is available in all Foxtel subscribing homes, channel 709.

Christmas is generally a “traditional” time of year but sometimes old style themes are quite lost on today’s children. Every year we put snowflakes on the windows and my mother puts up her fake fireplace. Yet my children have no concept of snow at Christmas time and none of our houses has ever had a fireplace (not a real one at least).

I have taught well over 100 craft classes for children and the one thing I can tell you is that if kids do not relate to their project then no “creativity” will shine through.

So, here is a fun way to theme your Christmas decorations to something your little ones can relate to. This Disney Junior Jake And The Never Land Pirates Christmas door wreath is lots of jolly fun and all the kids who come to our door love it. If you use it year after year, it also adds a little “time stamp” for remembering when your kids were young.

Because let’s face it, they grow up way too fast.

==============

To make this Jake and The Never Land Christmas Wreath, you will need:

  • A lifebuoy ring or polystyrene wreath (from a craft store) and rope (hardware store)
  • Themed Jake And The Never Land Pirates Party Plate (from a Party Store)
  • Gold Coins (Party section)
  • Sword (Dress up section)
  • Skull and CrossBones sticker or printout
  • Christmas sign and Christmas bows.

When you have all these items, the rest of the instructions on how to make this Christmas wreath fall into place, especially if your kids love watching Jake and The Never Land Pirates on Disney Junior Channel. (Disney Junior The Channel is where magical storytelling comes to life! Available in all Foxtel subscribing homes in Australia; channel 709 and Fetch).

Start adding the embellishments on to the lifebuoy ring. The kids can help you to design and create the layout.

We used a quick drying clear craft glue instead of Hot Glue so that the kids could get involved and help create the perfect family wreath. And that is it!

How easy and fun was this? What Disney Junior character would your kids use to create their own perfect wreath? Join them at @disneyjunioraunz and use #DJMagical Moments.

10 Fun Ways to Decorate Easter Eggs

If you’re looking to go beyond the dye kits at the store for your Easter eggs this year, I’ve collected 10 fun ways to dye or otherwise decorate your Easter eggs. These are fun STEM and craft experiments for kids and are pretty fun for grownups, too.

One of the most popular ways to dye Easter eggs while still using items from the store is to use natural dyeing methods with vegetables, fruit and spices. I’m sharing links to a few different posts here because people have slightly different methods or recipes for achieving different colors, but the basic procedure explained by Real Life at Home is a good one.

Check the recipe suggestions at Kaleyann, Mommypotamus and Your Home Based Mom, and let kids raid the kitchen or pick some fun things from the grocery store to try. Make sure to keep good records so you can repeat the process next year!

Another easy method to try is dyeing eggs with food coloring. This can make more vibrant colors than you tend to get from natural dyes, but it’s still an easy method and can be done with things you already have in the house. Check out these tips from Studio DIY to get started.

If you want to use food coloring to color your eggs but want to give them a different look, try this method of dyeing eggs with rice from Kids Activity Zone. Or get a marbled look by dyeing eggs with whipped cream, like these from My Home Based Life. So fun and messy!

For less traditional looking eggs, try dyeing eggs with old silk ties or shirts. The pattern from the fabric transfers to the egg in a unique way that’s a lot of fun to try. Get the instructions from A Thrifty Mom.

Use markers and coffee filters for an easy, pretty, low-mess way to color eggs. Learn how at The Savvy Sparrow. Or bring some nature to your egg decorating with these pretty pressed flower eggs from Little Pine Learners.
