Apple crafts are a natural in the fall, and this is a cool science project for kids of a variety of ages.
Our Family Code has a post about mummification using apples that looks like a lot of fun. They did the activity as part of their reading of the Magic Tree House book about ancient Egypt.
Kids can make hypotheses about what materials might work better for drying out the apples, observe how the apples change over time and figure out how to determine which substance was most effective.
