Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a great time to learn about the native people of wherever you happen to live. I always recommend Native Land Digital as a way to find out who originally lived where you live now (my home is on land that once belonged to Caddo, Osage, Quapaw and Sioux peoples).
It’s a great idea to explore a little of the language and culture of an Indigenous tribe. You can learn more about the native people in your area through an Internet search.
The Cherokee Nation has a lot of great resources on their language, as an example. This PDF tells a little bit about Sequoyah, who developed the Cherokee syllabary, and includes the names of each of the United States in Cherokee with a pronunciation guide. There are also coloring sheets and a place where you can trace the symbols for the name of each state.
