Making a solar oven is a fun STEM activity that’s environmentally friendly, and when you cook smores inside you get a snack, too.
Nourishing My Scholar has the DIY for making your own solar oven out of a pizza box (please get a clean one!) and talks about what is happening and why you need all the different parts to collect the sun’s rays so that your chocolate will melt.
This, of course, will take a lot longer than conventional smores (about two hours, depending on the heat of the sun on the day you’re doing it) but it’s a really fun project both to make the oven and to observe (and eat!) the smores in the end.
Have you ever made a solar oven with your kids? I’d love to hear about it!

2 hrs is too long to wait for a smore

Agreed. But for science, maybe.
