“Painting” with yarn is a classic activity that usually involves a fair amount of mess because you usually do it by coating the yarn with glue or putting down a glue line and smooshing the yarn into the glue. Either way fingers get sticky quickly and your yarn gets rather messy, too.
I don’t want to spoil the method from Picklebums because you need to click over there and check it out for yourself, but it’s super cool and really simple and I can’t believe I didn’t think of it myself.
As someone with a lot of yarn around the house I might just do this myself to make my own yarny portraits, no kiddos required. But kids will love this one, too! Check it out at Picklebums.
