Bad Product , Bad Parenting or Crazy People Letting It Happen?

November 28, 2015 by Shellie Wilson 5 Comments

bunchems-presents-not-to-buy-this-christmas-gift-guide

We often get asked to review kids toy’s especially around Christmas time but even though we haven’t been asked to review this one we thought we would still give you our two cents worth.

If you’re not familiar Bunchems then you only need to Google the name as its been in a whole “bunch” of newspapers this week for all the wrong reasons. So to sum it up for you, basically this toy which sticks together to make creations (a little like velcro hook and eyes) apparently really sticks to your hair (see image below). There are literally 100’s of pictures online of kids with these things stuck in their hair but why ? What on earth were they doing to get so many stuck in to their hair? I can understand that one might get stuck when a child throws it at another but this many?  Isn’t it like lego? Just because it can go up your nose doesn’t mean that is what you do with it right?  When it does go up your child’s nose do you go online and blame the product? I mean we can say with 99% surety this product is not likely to sell any more.

Okay so back to how it happened and how it’s possible

Has your child got more than one of two Bunchems stuck in their hair? Please comment below and tell us how it happened so easily?

Meantime we recommend NOT buying this product unless used whilst wearing a swimming cap or shower cap.

The package says not to put it near hair. Looks like the kids are using them like hair decorations not toys so that is why so many are seen with them stuck in the hair. My daughter has them and never has she wanted to put them in her hair.

kids just need to be old to enough to understand the instruction “Keep them away from your hair” … and obedient enough to comply … then they are free to use their imagination and creativity to have fun with these things

Girls make necklaces out of them and once they try to put it over their heads to wear, it’s all over.

Gotta love parents who shame other parents just because they haven’t gone through something! Bad parenting? Really?

Shark Week Learning for Kids

Shark Week generally happens in July, but any time is a good time to learn more about sharks.

First, start with some fun whale facts like these from Kids Craft Room. Here I learned about the dwarf lantern shark, which is the smallest shark and only grows to about 6-8 inches (about 15-20 cm) long. It also emits light. How cool is that?

Natural Beach Living has some great printable shark information guides, where kids can learn about different kinds of sharks, match the facts to the pictures, or print out doubles and do a shark memory game.

Living Life an Learning has some great shark activity pages including the parts of a shark, types of sharks, a crossword puzzle and more. Also check out their parts of a shark and word scramble download, and a life cycle worksheet.

Learn about how sharks float with this great activity from JDaniel4’s Mom.

Need more facts about sharks? This fact pact from The WOLFe PACK on Teacher Pay Teachers includes fact sheets, a printable flip book, informational text, vocabulary, comprehension questions and more.

Living Montessori Now has a great collection of shark themed activities with a Montessori inspired twist. You’ll find a shark roll and cover, shark phonics and lots more shark activities Deb has collected from all over the Internet.

Remember the “Sharknado” movie? A Few Shortcuts turned the combination of sharks and tornadoes into a fun science activity. You’ll need a bottle connector for this project but otherwise should have everything you need on hand. Use their template to make your sharks out of aluminum foil. So fun!

You can also do some shark themed coloring with these coloring pages from Encouraging Moms at Home. Or make a cool 3D shark with this template from korkotak. And there are tons of different shark crafts collected in this post from Kids Activities Blog.
