Bird Crafts for Kids

April 10, 2026 by Sarah White Leave a Comment

Celebrate the return of the birds with the warmer weather with this collection of bird crafts for kids.

This cardboard roll parrot from Artsy Craftsy Mom is a cute and easy one that you could do in different ways to make different kinds of birds. (Also reminds me of a cardboard roll owl over on my website.)

Paper plates are another classic craft supply that’s perfect for turning into a bird, like this toucan from I Heart Crafty Things; or this owl from Easy Peasy and Fun; or these funky birds that are painted, feathered and otherwise decorated, from Happy Hooligans.

Speaking of funky birds, these made with paper cups from Mas and Pas are also a lot of fun. These sorts of projects are a great way to use all those little random bits in the craft box to make something really fun.

If you’ve got random bits of cardboard in your stash (maybe from cutting with your Beaver Bot?) you can use them to make birds like these from Messy Little Monster.

Or use your leftover cupcake liners to make these sweet little birds that can stand up. Get the tutorial from Our Kid Things.

You can also make a bird from craft sticks, like these little bluebirds from Artsy Momma. These are made with small craft sticks so they can be magnets, but you could make this or any other kind of bird with the larger sticks, too.

If you know me you know I love any craft with yarn, so I’m particularly attracted to these yarn-wrapped birds from Craftsy Hacks. Technically she’s using embroidery floss, but you could do the same thing with yarn, rainbow colored or otherwise. Arty Crafty Kids has another version that uses twigs for legs and is also quite cute.

I also love this idea from Three Busy Boys, which you could do with cardstock, paperboard or cardboard. She cut out the shapes and let kids color and glue on buttons, but bigger kids could make their own bird shapes. I can’t find a place to grab this template other than Pinterest, but you could use it to make a fun stand up bird if you want to go that route.

Easy Felt Food Pancakes for Kids – A Sweet Pretend Play Craft for Classrooms and Home

These felt food pancakes for kids are a sweet little project for anyone who loves making handmade toys for pretend play. Made from felt, batting, and a few simple sewing supplies, this craft creates a soft pancake stack complete with syrup and butter, making it perfect for play kitchens, classroom dramatic play areas, or homemade gift sets.

What makes this project so appealing is the play value. This is not just a craft that gets made and forgotten. Once finished, the felt pancake becomes part of everyday imaginative play, which makes it a great choice for parents, teachers, and grandparents wanting something practical as well as cute.

This project is better suited to adults or older children who can sew, as it involves cutting felt, stitching the layers, and stuffing the pancake. It is a lovely option for anyone building a collection of felt food toys, and it would fit beautifully into a pretend café, toy kitchen, or sensory play setup.

For more creative projects for little ones, browse the Kids Crafts section on CraftBits. You can also explore the Therapy Crafts section on CraftBits for more sensory-friendly ideas.

These felt food pancakes are simple, charming, and full of imaginative play potential, which makes them a lovely handmade project for kids.
